Inspiration from

Big Hero 6

I was surprised with Big Hero 6. I’d never heard of the comics until the movie and so when I watched it, I was pleasantly surprised. I love a good superhero movie and whilst this was using science as a weapon, it was certainly an interesting story. It also had plenty of laugh out loud moments too.

Setting the scene in Big Hero 6 is the wonderful city of San Fransokyo (which I keep spelling wrong!). Mixing San Francisco and Tokyo together to create a city famous for its technological marvels. I wanted to create a recipe that utilises America’s cuisine with Japanese cuisine. However American food, tends to be a lot of large meat and carbs, and Japanese food is smaller and refined. So I did a mix of little and large: a popular dish sold in America, burgers but on a small scale like sushi. These mini burgers are quick to make and can be finished in a few bites.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame Salade Niçoise

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Toast, crusts removed
  • 4 slices Tomato
  • 4 slices Cucumber
  • 4 Beef Meatballs
  • Cress, garnish

I’ve listed this dish as an appetiser. You could easily make many of these and serve them as main dish but it would work better as a starter before a larger meal. This dish has very little ingredients, only really consisting of Bread, Tomato, Cucumber and Meatballs.

You could easily add your own layers. Cheese is a popular addition to burgers, along with some friend mushrooms or onions. You could also add an egg and hash browns or sautéed potatoes to the side as most of the items are quite breakfast-y. I added some cress as a garnish to make it look nice too.

I was able to balance these with luck. It might be easier to use a cocktail stick to help tower these layers, though you’ll want to tell your guests before they bite into them!
