Savoury Sundae Surprise

Fred Weasley was the most daring and dominant among the twins of Arthur Weasley and Molly Weasley. He was the older twin brother and best friend to George Weasley.

He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Gryffindor House. Both he and his twin brother were popular students, known for their sense of humour, pranks, and were also Beaters for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. In their seventh year, they joined Dumbledore’s Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter.

A born prankster and inventor, Fred left Hogwarts shortly prior to graduation to become a successful entrepreneur, alongside his twin brother, George, and opened the joke shop Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley. Fred was also a member of the Order of the Phoenix and was a commentator for Potterwatch during the height of the Second Wizarding War. Fred participated in the Battle of Hogwarts, defending the castle’s passageways with his twin. While fighting alongside his brother, Percy, he was killed in an explosion. George named the first of his children after him.

Ingredients

100g Ham Hock (pre-cooked)
50g Smoked Bacon (pre-cooked, diced)
2 Cherry Tomatoes
600g Mashed Potato
150ml BBQ Sauce
400g Baked Beans
200ml Passata
1 Red Onion (sliced)

A little April Fools Day meal with these sundae lookalikes. They taste amazing and use ingredients to create a dessert look but with savoury tastes. With Fred and George’s mischievous personalities, this was a great meal inspired by them!

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Cook the mashed potato according to packet instructions or make your own. Cook the baked beans in a saucepan.
Step 2
In a frying pan, fry the onions for 5 minutes in some olive oil then add the ham hock for a minute more. Add the passata and half the BBQ sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
Step 3
In another pan add the remaining BBQ sauce and two thirds of the diced bacon. Cook until heated through and bubbling.
Step 4
Layer the mixtures in a sundae glass. Start with the baked beans at the bottom. Add half the mash potato to each glass. Then add the ham hock mixture. Then top with the rest of the mash potato. Pour the sauce over the mash and sprinkle over the remaining bacon bits. Finish with a cherry tomato in the centre and enjoy your savoury sundae!
