Disgust’s Broccoli Pizza

Whilst Disgust obviously turned her nose down at the thought of Broccoli on Pizza, I’ve created a delight of flavours that makes it work!

Inspiration from

Inside Out

Inside Out is one of my favourite Pixar movies. I love the ideas brought forward from it: the emotions controlling the brain, the forgetters maintaining the long term memory library, the dreams being setup like a movie production set, the subconscious set between Long term memory and the memory dump – it’s all very clever!

An idea struck (and is probably hanging around in my own Imagination Land) that I would create a pizza for each of the emotions. So far I have only thought of this recipe for Disgust and the following recipe for Anger. The Broccoli pizza stems from the movie itself, however I’ve used more than just broccoli to induce more flavour into an otherwise bland topping. Hopefully Disgust would, at least, try this scrumptious dish!

The Hunchback of Notre Dame Salade Niçoise

Ingredients

  • 400g Sourdough Pizza Base
  • Flour (for dusting)
  • 2 tbsp Pesto
  • 200g Broccoli Florets
  • 4 slices Prosciutto (coarsely torn)
  • 1 Lemon (sliced)
  • 75g Mozzarella (torn)
  • 100g Feta (crumbed)
  • Cress (garnish)

Personally I love using Jus-Rol’s Sourdough Pizza Base. It tastes amazing and is much easier than attempting to make your own! A sourdough base is a great choice for vegetarians and vegans too, which you should be able to adapt this recipe to make suitable for you!

For instance, I’m using Prosciutto in this recipe to add some extra flavours to the pizza but this could be taken out or replaced with a sprinkling of Paprika and/or Red Chilli Flakes. It would also help spice up the Pizza as Disgust has that inkling of sass in her personality!

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Preheat oven to 200ºC (or 180ºC Fan Assisted) and line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper.

Step 2

Dust a clean surface with flour and add some flour to your hands. Using your fingers and knuckles push out the dough to form a pizza shape. Turn over the dough regularly to balance out the dough. Do not use a Rolling Pin as this will damage the dough. You can also pick up the dough by holding one edge in each hand and allow it to hang vertically, the weight of the dough will make it stretch and become thinner. Rotate your hands around the edges, allowing the dough to stretch each time, until you have achieved the desired thickness for your pizza base. Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet.

Step 3

Cut off the tops of the broccoli (dark green parts) and discard all the branches (light green parts). Spread the pesto over the dough and then evenly sprinkle the broccoli bits over. Top with the lemon slices, Prosciutto pieces, feta crumbs and torn mozzarella evenly across the pizza. Then drizzle over the olive oil.

Step 4

Transfer to the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes until the crust is crisp and the cheese has melted. Remove from oven and serve with a garnish of cress.
