Inspiration from

Octillery

Octillery is a red, cephalopod-like Pokémon with large, round eyes and a turret-like mouth. There are yellow bumps on its rock-hard head and yellow suction cups on each of its eight tentacles. It uses its tentacles for manipulating objects and the suction cups give it strong gripping power. Because of this, it is very hard for it to be blown away. Octillery is the only known Pokémon that learns Octazooka naturally.

Octillery is a relaxed Pokémon who loves fuss from its Trainer. In the wild, it will spurt ink containing substances that dull predators’ sense of smell to protect its young from danger. Even though it is more docile when domesticated, it can be very stubborn at times in the wild. It instinctively sneaks into rocky holes, and if it gets sleepy, it steals the nest of a fellow Octillery. It sometimes sprays ink on prey by sticking out only its mouth, and its suction cups hold prey tightly. Octillery is normally found in oceans.

It is also thought to be a distant relative to Omastar.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame Salade Niçoise

Ingredients

For the Bruschetta:
60ml Olive Oil
1 Red Bell Pepper (sliced)
1 Onion (sliced)
3 Garlic Cloves (sliced)
1 Red Chilli (seeded, sliced)
185ml White Wine
6 Cherry Tomatoes (halved)
2 Bay Leaves
1 tbsp Basil (chopped)
150g Squid Rings
4 Sandwich Thins (toasted)

For the Cucumber Boats:
1 Cucumber
2 cans Tinned Tuna (drained)
1 stalk celery (diced)
100g Greek Yogurt
2 tbsp Mayonnaise
1 tsp English Mustard

Remoraid is a light blue, fish-like Pokémon with saucer-like eyes, and a mouth with four pointed teeth. There are two dark stripes on its back that resembles the barrel of a revolver. It has a single pelvic fin positioned like a revolver’s trigger, two small pectoral fins, and a dorsal fin near its mouth resembling a gun’s front sight. In addition, it has two caudal fins, the bottom of which resembling the butt of a gun and the top resembling the hammer. All of its fins except for the dorsal fin are white.

Remoraid is well known for its ability to shoot jets of water from the surface with incredible accuracy and distance, often to shoot down flying insect prey out of the air. It tends to travel by attaching to Mantine’s fins or in large groups of its own kind. When attached to a Mantine, it feeds on whatever the Mantine leaves behind, but will fight alongside it as well. Remoraid is a sea-dwelling Pokémon, but when evolution draws near, Remoraid travels downstream from rivers.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

For the bruschetta: Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in the bell pepper, onion, garlic and chilli until combined. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes or until the onion is soft but not browned.

Step 2

Increase the heat to high. Add the wine. Cook for 2 minutes or until the wine reduces slightly. Add the tomatoes, bay leaves and basil. Bring to a simmer. Add the squid. Reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1.5 hours. Uncover and simmer for a further 1 hour or until the squid is tender. Discard the bay leaves and basil sprig. Set aside to cool. Cover and place in the fridge overnight to develop the flavours.

Step 3

Bring the squid mixture to room temperature. (Alternatively, to serve warm, reheat the squid mixture in a saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes or until warmed through.) Spoon the squid mixture over toasted bread. Drizzle over a little extra oil.

Step 4

For the cucumber boats: Mix the tuna, celery, Greek yogurt, mayonnaise and English mustard in a bowl until combined. Cut the ends off the cucumber then half lengthways and widthways until you have 4 semi-circle pieces. Using a spoon, gently scrape out the insides. Spoon the mixture into the boats and serve.
