Pansage and Broccoli Pasta

Pansage is a simian, green-and-cream Pokémon. It has oval, black eyes, large ears with light green insides, and a tiny, black nose. There is a broccoli-like sprout atop its head. In the sprout’s foliage are three yellow, tapered seed-like shapes. If eaten, the leaves in this sprout can alleviate exhaustion. Its muzzle, upper body, and skinny forelimbs are cream-colored, and its hands seem to have no fingers, aside from a thumb. Pansage’s lower body is green with small feet, and its long tail is tipped with two leaves. Pansage dwells deep in the forest, where it collects berries to share with its friends.
I decided on two main ingredients for this dish: Sage and Broccoli, given its name and appearance. I wanted these ingredients to be the main spectacle so included pasta to the side instead of incorporating meat into the dish. This kept the dish vegetarian (although I did add Parmesan which can be substituted for a vegetarian hard cheese instead).
100g Tenderstem Broccoli
3 tbsp Olive Oil
1 Onion (finely chopped)
1 clove Garlic (minced)
¼ tsp Red Pepper Flakes
10 leaves Sage (chopped)
Parmesan Shavings (optional, to serve)
To keep this dish vegetarian, replace the Parmesan with a vegetarian alternative or remove altogether. Personally I love some cheese on top as it gives the dish a little hint of Italian flavour to the spaghetti and broccoli.
Sage has a savoury, slightly peppery taste. It is often used with fish in Italian cuisine, and alongside onion in a stuffing mixture in British roast dinners. In the Levant and Egypt it is commonly used as a flavor for hot black tea, or boiled and served as an herbal drink in its own right
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1Boil the spaghetti in a pan of boiling water for 15 minutes until soft and cooked.
Step 2Halfway through add a colander over the pasta and steam cook the broccoli.
Step 3Heat the oil in a frying pan and add the onion and garlic. Cook for 5 minutes until translucent. Add the red pepper flakes and sage.
Step 4Once cooked served the spaghetti in a bowl with the broccoli and sage mixture over the top. Optionally add Parmesan shavings on top.
