Pokemon Sword and Shield

Pokemon Sword and Shield is set to be released on 15th November 2019 on the Nintendo Switch. During your adventure, you will be traveling through the Galar region, where you will find many unique locations, such as huge grassy plains filled with nature and towns and cities where people and Pokémon work and live together!

Another characteristic part of Galarian culture is the way Pokémon battles are regarded as the most popular form of entertainment across the whole region.

Challengers face off against the Gym Leaders in Pokémon battles held in the various stadiums found throughout the region. Whenever there is a battle, these stadiums ring with the passionate cheering of large crowds of fans and spectators.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is coming this week and this generation is based upon my home, Great Britain. We have Pokemon that represent the country such as Polteageist, a ghost in a teapot; Yamper, the small corgi-like dog; Eldegoss representing the Dandelion population in our gardens; and Wooloo, the sheep Pokemon that has warmed everyones hearts!

The three starter Pokemon, as usual, represent the familiar types Grass, Fire and Water. We have Grookey, the Grass Chimp Pokemon, Scorbunny the Fire Rabbit Pokemon, and Sobble the Water Lizard Pokemon. I’ve taken inspiration from the three starters and recreated a classic British dish using different flavours of sausages to match the starter Pokemon.

For Grookey I’m using Heck’s “Super Green” Sausages which are made from quinoa, spinach, kale & ginger displaying as a vibrant green colour.

For Scorbunny, I’m using Heck’s “The Beet Goes On” Sausages which are Veggie sausages made from beetroot, carrot, horseradish and sunflower seeds which once cooked become a beautiful red colour.

And for Sobble, I’m using Heck’s “Zesty Chicken” Chipolatas packed with peppery watercress and lemon using flavours linked to the water type Pokemon

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Whisk together the eggs, flour, milk, water, mustard, salt and pepper, beating out any lumps of flours. The consistency should be like double cream but not thinner. Rest for 15 minutes and preheat over to 220ºC.

Step 2

Brush the olive oil onto a roasting tin and leave it in the oven for 5 minutes. Pour in the batter so that it sizzles softly on the oil. Add and arrange the sausages so they sit 1 of each close together. Transfer back to the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until puffed and golden.

Step 3

Meanwhile make your mashed potato. Towards the end of the bake, fry the leek and spring onions in a frying pan for 10 minutes until soft and charred at the edges. Make your gravy from pack instructions.

Step 4

Slice the toad-in-the-hole into two pieces and place on plates with the leek and onion mix to one side and mash potato on the other. Pour over the gravy and serve.
