Rick and Morty is an American animated television series created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland.

The show was based on a series of crudely animated short films for Channel 101 based on a Back to the Future parody “The Real Animated Adventures of Doc and Mharti” by Justin Roiland. With the exception of the Pilot episode, each episode ends with a post-credits scene. The synopsis follows:

After going missing for nearly 20 years, Rick Sanchez suddenly arrives at his daughter Beth’s doorstep looking to move in with her and her family. Beth welcomes him with open arms, but her unremarkable husband Jerry isn’t too thrilled about the tearful reunion as Rick’s arrival serves to shake things up quite a bit around the household. Rick converts the garage into his personal laboratory and gets to work on all sorts of dangerous sci-fi gadgets and contraptions. That wouldn’t be so bad if not for the fact that Rick continues to involve his grandchildren Morty and Summer in his insane adventures.

Ingredients

400g Sourdough Pizza Base
Flour (for dusting)
2-4 tbsp Pesto
2 Courgettes
50g Parmesan
50g Rocket (to garnish)

I first discovered Rick and Morty midway through their Season 2. I thought I’d give it a try as I hadn’t heard much about it. I thought it was pretty good so continued watching. It soon became apparent everyone else had similar plans and soon Rick and Morty became extremely popular to the point where people are demanding more seasons and the animators can’t keep up.

For this recipe I’d used ribboned courgette before in previous recipes, however I wanted to try making it into a pizza shape. Using pesto, courgette ribbons and rocket in a rose effect on the sourdough pizza base, I created a shape that looked like one of Rick’s portal gun portals. I initially has a completely different recipe inspired by Rick and Morty but felt this was a better replacement for the show!

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 180ºC. Roll out your pizza dough according to packet instructions, using your hands and a dusting of flour to stop the dough from sticking. Roll the dough into a rough circle shape.
Step 2
Place the dough onto a baking tray. Spoon over the pesto so it covers the base.
Step 3
Peel your courgettes into ribbons until there is the seeds left (You can chop these and sprinkle over the base). Arrange the courgette ribbons in a spiralled pattern, creating a rose effect. Sprinkle over the Parmesan (or vegetarian alternative).
Step 4
Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, until the base is crispy. Add some rocket continuing the spiral effect, then cut and serve.
