The two headed Ostrich Pokemon, Doduo, is the inspiration for this French dish of steak in a red wine jus served with Tomato Rostis and Dauphinoise Potatoes
Spoink Sausage Spirals
Ready In:40 mins
Spoink is a strange Pokémon. Closely resembling a pig without legs, Spoink bounces around on its tail. According to the Pokédex, “The shock of its bouncing makes its heart pump. As a result, this Pokémon cannot afford to stop bouncing – if it stops, its heart will stop.” That’s pretty horrible if you think about it, if you pick it up, you could potentially kill it! Spoink also carries a pink pearl on its head. “The pearl functions to amplify this Pokémon’s psychokinetic powers. It is therefore on a constant search for a bigger pearl.” However the pearl is also created by a Clamperl, which has the following Pokédex entry: “It makes a single pearl during its lifetime. The pearl is said to amplify psychic power.” Given the pearl within Clamperl’s body is its face, these two Pokédex entries prove that Spoink prey on Clamperls for the psychic ability.
Despite all that, it is thought that Spoink may obtain their pearls elsewhere, as the shiny form of Spoink has a grey pearl and the Shiny Clamperl pearl is gold, which could be a game error. And despite Pokédex entries saying that it would die if it stopped bouncing, it has been seen not bouncing many times in the anime.
2 tbsp Olive oil
Using the appearance of Spoink, I thought I’d recreate Turkey Twizzlers using pork sausages to match the pig-like visual. Attempt this recipe with a range of different sausage flavours to get great tasting curly tails! I added the roasted radishes to the side as a sweet accompaniment but also to represent the pink pearls atop the Spoink head.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1Preheat an oven to 200ºC. Skewer the sausages from end to end.
Step 2Run a knife around the sausage in a spiral down the full length of the sausage. Place on a wire rack over a baking tray.
Step 3Separately add radishes to a small roasting tin. Add the oil and shake lightly to coat the radishes.
Step 4Put both the sausages and the radishes in the oven for 20 minutes then serve hot.
