Togepi Scotch Eggs

Togepi is a small, light yellow Pokémon with a round body that is still encased in its eggshell. Togepi does not shed its shell. The Egg has red and blue shapes on it. Togepi has stubby hands and round feet with two toes each. Togepi has black eyes and five spikes on its head that seem to form a crown.

Togepi is able to release poison from the spikes on its head. The anime has shown that it can retract into its shell, which it usually does to sleep. It is able to siphon the positive energy of others, and then release it to those in need of it. It has a very joyful nature. As a result, it is said that it shares its joy with those who take care of it. Because of its disposition, Togepi is seen as a sign of good luck, especially if a Trainer is capable of getting a sleeping Togepi to stand. It is also shown in the anime that Togepi can act very maliciously at times, causing havoc and bad luck to its enemies. Although it is rare in the wild, Togepi can most commonly be found living within the forests.

Ingredients

6 Eggs
10 Gluten-free Sausages
0.5 tsp Fennel Seeds (crushed)
0.5 tsp Sage (chopped)
1 tsp Salt
Black Pepper
0.5 tbsp Honey
3 slices Gluten-free Bread
1 tbsp Gluten-free Flour
1 tsp Parsley (chopped)
1 tsp Paprika

I wanted to incorporate the use of eggs over Easter and felt Togepi would be good inspiration for an Egg recipe. Being that Togepi doesn’t completely hatch from its shell, the scotch eggs became an ideal recipe to sync with that idea. The idea that after eating the shell of sausage-meat, you get to the eggs true form copies that waiting period of Pokemon Eggs in game.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Add the eggs to saucepan and cover with water. Bring to the boil, turn off the head, add the lid and leave for 2-3 minutes. Add the eggs straight to a bowl of ice and water to stop them cooking any further. Once fully cooled, carefully peel the shells off the eggs and set aside.
Step 2
Remove the skin from the sausages and add the meat to a bowl. Add the fennel, sage, salt, a pinch of black pepper and honey and mix to combine. Preheat the oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with grease-proof paper. Divide the mixture into 6 equal sized balls and sit on the baking tray.
Step 3
Add the bread to a food processor and whizz for a few seconds until a breadcrumb texture is formed. On a plate, add the breadcrumbs, flour, paprika, parsley and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix to combine.
Step 4
Grab a ball of sausage meat and flatten it out. Add one egg and mould the sausage around the egg to form a ball. Roll the ball in the breadcrumb mix until fully coated and place on the baking tray. Repeat with the other eggs. Place in the oven for 20 minutes until the sausage is cooked and are lightly golden. Serve or cool and store in the fridge for later.
